    Michael Newman 1950 - 2012

    Michael Newman died unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm March 30th in his South Pasadena home. He is remembered for his generosity, fun spirit and for his ability to capture truthful moments.
  • Michael Newman was a photographer with over 30 years experience with concentrations in people, products and educational photography. He studied at The San Francisco Art Institute and at the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree studying both cinematography and photography. For the last 18 years, Michael has focused on educational photography for such clients as National Geographic Education, The Weekly Reader, Parade Magazine and book publishers such as McGraw-Hill.   • Newman's vibrant photography career included some highlights including collaborating with the famous architecture photographer Julius Schulman on a book showcasing the work of mid century architect Raphael Soriano, shooting video for the film How Do You Know? starring Reese Witherspoon and Jack Nicholson, shooting the stills for Sweet Old World, a film by David Zeiger and working for many civic organizations. Michael donated much of his time mentoring underprivileged elementary students and starting a breast cancer research fund at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, WA. Michael lived in South Pasadena, CA with his wife, two children and two dogs.
  • Remembering Rose

    In 2005 Margo and Michael Newman created a research fund at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in memory of Rose Newman McElroy, Michael's daughter. Rose died of breast cancer in 2005.
